The World War II veteran, Jerry, lives in Paris where he tries to establish himself as a painter. He meets the millionaire Milo who supports him and tries to help him. It becomes clear early on that Milo is more interested in Jerry than in his art. Jerry, who eventually falls in love with Lise, is engaged to Henri, to whom he feels indebted for saving her and her family during the war.
