"Christmas 71", a documentary by Margarida Cardoso, tells us about the reality of the years of Salazar's dictatorial regime. Margarida Cardoso takes up the title of the album recorded by the National Women's Movement, which was a Christmas gift to Portuguese soldiers fighting overseas with messages from fado singers, actors and football players exalting the nationalist sentiment, to raise their spirits. At the same time, Portuguese soldiers in Mozambique clandestinely recorded the ‘Cancioneiro de Niassa’ (Niassa Song Book) a cassette with songs in which they expressed their anger toward the regime. A documentary in which two distinct realities are presented: the fiction of propaganda and the reality of the colonial war.

With the presence of Margarida Cardoso (director)

and Paulo Cunha (Cineclube de Guimarães)
