Created in 1981, May B is already considered to be a
masterpiece in the history of contemporary dance. The work is based on Samuel
Beckett’s texts and characters, who yearn for stillness, but can’t stop moving. May B was an achievement of the French choreographer Maguy Marin and
founded a rare discourse and moment in time because she managed to give Samuel
Beckett's words the body he had been looking for, for so long. To do so she had
to overcome the Irish playwright's resistance to accept that his stage plays should
be adapted. He not only approved the project, but also invited her to meet with
him and discuss it, which makes May B a unique and timeless work.
